Black Viper has extensive expertise in directional and horizontal drilling—more than 100 years combined experience among our integrated management team. We have serviced wells both on land and offshore, from Florida to California and in between. This experience includes the Central Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Gulf Coast, involving a wide variety of stratum.

Our experience includes short radius drilling, multi-lateral horizontals, sidetracks, underbalanced wells, and extended reach drilling. Black Viper provides a thorough analysis of offsets with emphasis placed on BHA reactions and tendencies. We research each particular well plan and will provide recommendations as to the safest and most economically viable way to successfully drill your well. Additionally, we provide computerized torque and drag analysis and hydraulics modeling, to assist the client’s decision-making process.

Black Viper provides directional drilling engineers to supervise your directional drilling operation while you provide the working crew to operate the machinery and drilling equipment. Two directional engineers are assigned to perform these services onsite.

Steerable downhole PDMs
Black Viper has designed and built our own fleet of mud motors. Utilizing innovative materials and processes, Black Viper motors are built for performance. In addition, we utilize high quality vendors to support our operations thus ensuring our clients receive the service quality they demand. Black Viper matches the drilling motor to both the bit and formation type to optimize your drilling operation. These motors are matched to our own specifications with local applications in mind. Black Viper can provide whatever power section best fits your particular need.

Rotary Steerable
Being the progressive company we are, Black Viper can adapt to the constantly changing needs of our market. For this reason, we are deploying a cost effective Rotary Steerable Tool. Black Viper’s rotary steerable tool allows 3-dimensional control of the borehole while constantly rotating the drillstring, eliminating time-consuming orientation and sliding of a downhole motor. Paired with our reliable MWD service, Black Viper can get you to TD quickly and accurately.

Measurement while drilling
When an MWD system is required, Black Viper provides a reliable, high temperature rated (300F), positive pulse MWD tool. Our MWD is retrievable/resettable by wireline in most cases. The Black Viper MWD system is based on industry standards, and provides downhole data such as toolface, API gamma ray, temperature, and shock. This data is displayed in real time at surface, which allows our clients and directional drillers to make informed decisions about the condition of the well. Our MWD can be modified to utilize E-mag telemetry, which provides faster data transmission and greater reliability as there are no moving parts in the MWD tool string. Black Viper provides two additional MWD engineers on site when your project requires MWD services. These engineers maintain the MWD tool and the data collected. An array of software is used to display the progress of the well toward the target zone, and provide frequent reports via satellite to the client’s office.

Underbalanced Drilling (UBD)
UBD operations reduce the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling fluid column so that the pressure in the wellbore is less than the formation pressure. This technique prevents drilling fluid invasion of the formation resulting in permea-bilty damage and minimizes lost circulation and use of LCMs. Increased penetration rate is another benefit of UBD. Great care must be taken with UBD operations to prevent the wellbore from collapsing in on itself. That’s where the experience and expertise of Black Viper’s drilling engineers come in to play. We provide technical assistance in underbalanced drilling at your site.

Short radius drilling
We have extensive experience in short radius drilling, which reduces or eliminates drilling of an overlying formation, resulting in time and cost savings. This also avoids the need for shale inhibition. Using our specialized tools, Black Viper can achieve an exceptionally tight radius of curvature.
